USNews -brains shrink when waists expand
" It's well known being overweight or obese puts you at higher risk for a host of serious physical conditions, including type 2 diabetes, cancer and heart disease. But new research says all that extra flab is affecting your noggin'.

Researchers at UCLA studied brain images of 94 people in their 70s, free from dementia or other cognitive impairments. After five years clinically obese people had 8 percent less brain tissue -- their brains looked 16 years older than individuals of normal weight. Overweight participants had 4 percent less brain tissue. "

Prevention Mag - Omega 3's -Susan Allport
decrease Omega 6's , increase Omega 3's:
So it is no coincidence that as America shifted its diet--from one based on green leaves to one based on seeds--we became fatter and fatter and sicker and sicker. Our hibernation diet is exposing us to epidemics of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and brain disorders. Even infants, according to the Child and Family Research Institute of the University of British Columbia, are getting fatter--long before they could ever be accused of overeating--when they are fed formulas high in omega-6s. Sure, America's seed-based foods are remarkably cheap, but we spend the lowest percentage of our income on food and more on health care than any other country in the world.
I'm going to go to the YMCA tonight and check the scale there-- I still don't believe it! Aargh.

First Day

Depressing ... got on the scale today and it said 210. Can't do that, its NOT me, I have to change, I am a person who values health and looking good. Stress could start killing me any day. I'm 43/F, single mom.

Yesterday I attended a symopsium at NMH and one of the speakers spoke about BMI. I am going to concentrate on getting down to 175 because that is what I should be at my height (5' 10") if I was at the top end of "normal" BMI of 25. The speaker also said that waist to height or hip ratio is an even more important indicator of relative heart health. So here we go, I'm going to do it this time!!!!!!!!!!!

What I will do here is keep track of food and exercise, and also collect all my nutrition blogs/news and websites that will keep me motivated. I really want to focus on stress reduction too because I think that is what really triggers me to overeat. I need to build a plan of attack and get organized to reduce stress.
